Hotel Učka

Hotel Učka, a former resort from INA, Croatia’s oil company

Ina’s former resort, restaurant, and hotel, which were once extremely popular, today are still closed, and the spacious surrounding sports and recreation complex at 860 meters above sea level is neglected and devastated.

In the meantime, the area where it is located has entered the Učka Nature Park, and various ambitious plans are being announced, such as the construction of a cable car from Medveja to the top of Učka.

The central facility (hotel) has 27 rooms (70 beds), 2 restaurants for 150 guests, grill-terraces, aperitif bar, club, cafe with fireplace, large conference hall, trim hall, sauna…

The resort was opened in December 1977, completely renovated for the workers of the Rijeka refinery, INA. In the best times, from 1977 to 1987, the resort employed 33 people. The resort operated under the INA’s umbrella, and when the unionized resorts began to close, INA opened a company named Hostin so that the activities could continue, but now on a profitable basis. Later, INA gave the complex to the veterans of the Homeland War, who later subleased it to Istrian caterers from Ročko Polje. However, it was difficult to survive on a commercial basis, so the caterers had to give it up and everything returned to the hands of INA. Later was decided to “open” the resort to the market and to sell it, which is what happened, and the resort was taken over by the company Vladimir Gortan from Pazin. In 2018, the resort was sold to the company Rudan from Žminj.
