Brigido Castle

Brigido Castle, named after the feudal noble family Brigido (16th-19th centuries).

The palace is in a walled courtyard with four low corner towers. The courtyard portal with the coat of arms on the headstone was demolished in the mid-fifties of the 20th century. The south-eastern tower of the castle and the stable, which was added to the eastern wall in the 19th century, have recently been badly adapted. All that remains is the perimeter wall with towers, a prison, a promenade, and a loophole. The facade of the residence is divided by a series of simple, rectangular window openings, and only the main portal is more elaborately treated. Today, the mezzanine structures of the first and second floors have largely collapsed. There are still a lot of remains of geometric, ceiling stucco, wall paintings and even the inventory of the house chapel. Although the residency is still referred to as a castle by the owners in the documents from the end of the 19th century, and although it has long retained fortification properties, at least in the sense of a base suitable for defense against possible rebellions of Gorenje and Dolenje Vasi or other villages that belonged to it, there are also no doubts in the rural characteristics of this luxurious residence for modest North Istrian conditions.
